One Day Trip Plan from Tokyo: Nagatoro (長瀞さん)

Nagatoro is a tourist destination surrounded by natural beauty, just two hours away from Tokyo. The Arakawa River (荒川) originates from the Chichibu Mountain and flows over Tokyo and falls into the Gulf of Tokyo. The part that flows through the Nagatoro is the most picturesque and beautiful.

Things to Do

Boating: River boating is one of the best options among all. It is a wonderful experience to sail across the strong current of the river while watching the beautiful green nature and astonishing rock formations of the bank of the river and at the same time knowing details from the experienced boatmen.

TIP: If a cameraman suddenly stands on a hillside and asks for a smile, you must keep that request. Later, if you want you can give your address to them, they will actually send the picture of that beautiful moment to your home.

Pray at Hodosan shrine: Hodosan Shrine (寳登山神社, Hodosan Jinja) is an old shrine in Nagatoro. The shrine was built at the foot of Mount Hodo in the year 110 and became an auspicious place where visitors come to pray for protection against natural disasters. The vibrant and colorful wood carving of the temple as well as the lush green surrounding has multiplied its beauty.

Mt. Hodo Ropeway Ride: A short walk away from the shrine is the Hodosan Ropeway, which takes passengers to the top of Mount Hodo. Also, there are walking trails at the summit for trekkers. The Summit offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding townscape and mountains.

A. Oneway: Adults  490 yen ( High School Students & above)
                    Child    250 yen

This place is unique in all seasons, so you can visit this place without any hesitation whether it is autumn or spring, or summer. However, in my opinion, not all places in Japan can be visited in the summer because of humid weather, so Nagatoro can be a great option for summer.
